Originally released in 2000, this concept album integrates modern classical composition techniques with the richness of symphonic progressive rock. Virtuoso guitarist Bill Pohl is featured heavily in the elaborate arrangements. That Was Propaganda was conceived during the Russian coup of August 1991. The first notes of the first track were inspired a little later when news came across of the decision to change the name of the historical old city from the terrible, dark oppression of "Leningrad" back to the historical "St. Petersburg." The album explores the disease of collectivism, and its cure, autonomous identity.
"It's easily one of the best progressive releases of the year, maybe of all time. No kidding.... If you like complex symphonic keyboard work, I think you'll agree with me that this is the greatest." - Fred Trafton, Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock.
