No Rules is a newly started band from Sweden, which began for real in the autumn 2004. Before that, lead guitarist Tommy Magnusson had been working alone for many years in his home studio in a little village called Kallinge in Blekinge, Sweden. He had done a couple of songs before with No Rules but with another singer, Jens (he now sings back vocals in No Rules). But he needed more people than just himself so in October -04, he met the drummer Martin Nilsson that lived in a village, just a couple of miles from Tommy.
We started jamming and playing together, and Martin started to record drums on some already finished songs, and we came up with some new together in the studio, we worked very easy together because we listen to mostly the same music and both find strong melodies very important. Sometime in 2005 when Tommy and Martin had recorded the most of the album, the lead singer Olof jumped over the fence (he is Tommy’s neighbour) and he listened and decided to record some vocals on the twelve tracks. He made up lyrics in his forklift at work and started to record the vocals a couple of months later.
It has been many late nights, many hours and many days in the studio next to our regular work at the local wood factory but now the debut album “Where We Belong” is finally finished. Our main goal is to make melodic symphonic rock with an original touch. Our biggest inspirations are bands like Journey, Asia, Dream-Theater, Genesis, Black Sabbath, Saga, Camel, Yes and Marillion. The name No Rules came from the fact that we like to use inspiration from many different music styles and like to play what ever makes the music sound better in the studio, we like to have “no rules” in the studio in the meaning of mixing everything together, and try to come up with new and original ideas without losing the main theme in the songs, therefore “Where We Belong” is a very dynamic and melodic album.
