The third album release of 2006, and ninth overall, GOOD CITIZEN finds Sahib trodding down familiar paths with it's dark lyrics, and unusual tales of life, death, convicts, and crimes. Just take a listen to the tunes, When Johnny Got Shot, Working In The Cemetary, and Friday Nights Rain, to see what we mean. Then you find Sahib veering off the path a bit on tunes like This Is Real, and Top Of The List, and exploring more of a jazz sound. Then Jacks Home is a haunting track that finds a convicted killer being released back into society. A track that could easily be the soundtrack to a modern day horror flick. Sahib doesn't forget where he's from either. Jones Farm is his take on a popular folktale which took place shortly after the civil war in Western North Carolina, which is where Sahib is from. The explosive track The Vision Of Obadiah, even finds Sahib exploring a heavy industrial rock sound, while Ghosts Of Ancient Pompei, is simple piano, strings, harmonica, and Sahib's haunting vocal work. No matter which tune or what path, one thing is for sure. Sahib's signature is written all over each and everyone.
All songs, written, arranged, and produced by: Sahib Radio

WHEN JOHNNY GOT SHOT
When Johnny got shot he was never all that smart.
It tore this town to pieces, it tore this town apart.
They closed down the shops and they closed down the stores,
They closed down the mall and the grocery store.
They put bars on the windows and boarded up their homes,
And everyone left town, in the pouring rain.
They say it was a hate crime and some believe it might
It was a time bomb, a gallon of gasoline waiting to ignite.
They closed down the mall and the grocery store.
They put bars on the windows and boarded up their homes,
And everyone left town, in the pouring rain.
There never was a trial, and no one was ever named
They say justice was done when the innocent was hanged
They closed down the shops and they closed down the stores,
They closed down the mall and the grocery store.
They put bars on the windows and boarded up their homes,
And everyone left town, in the pouring rain.
Things around here will never be the same
And the guilty left town, in the pouring rain.
GOOD CITIZEN
The death of the good citizen is unjustified
While those in high places stand idly by
In the end it all comes crashing down
And the trust in the saints can no longer be found
The good citizen has long been gone.
Just like the ruins of ancient Rome
And the death of the good citizen is unjustified
While those in high places stand idly by.
In the end it all comes crashing down
And the trust in the saints can no longer be found.
The judging of the people has now begun,
And at the top of the list is the good citizen.
Mr. money bags put his business on the line.
God have mercy on those who decline.
In the end it all comes crashing down
And the trust in the saints can no longer be found.
The good citizen has long been gone.
Just like the ruins of ancient Rome.
Will the good citizen get his due rest,
and they're watching it all on the TV set.
They say, there's the smoke, now where's the gun.
Today they buried the good citizen
And the trust in the saints can no longer be found
In the end it all comes crashing down.
The death of the good citizen is unjustified
While those in high places stand idly by.
And the judge let go the ones to blame,
To him and the lawyers it's all just a game.
There's the smoke, now where's the gun.
Today they buried the good citizen.
In the end it all comes crashing down
And the trust in the saints can no longer be found.
And the death of the good citizen is unjustified
While those in high places stand idly by.
Today they buried the good citizen.
THIS IS REAL
Give us the freedom that others fought so hard to get.
Give us the peace that we don't have yet.
Life in the land of milk and honey.
Food on the table and a pocket full of money.
This is real, as real as it gets,
don't go spending money that you don't have yet.
Look in the basement and up on the roof.
Sell your soul and your one gold tooth.
This is real, as real as it gets,
don't go spending money that you don't have yet.
Go to bed early and rise with the sun,
don't do the things that your daddy done.
This is real, as real as it gets,
don't go spending money that you don't have yet
Someone in the corner is calling your name,
but you're to busy seeking your fame.
Your fame is elusive, some say a fable.
A pocket full of money and food on the table.
This is real, as real as it gets,
don't go spending money that you don't got yet.
You're looking real good in those high dollar shoes.
Picking up pieces, and looking for clues.
Don't do the things that your daddy done.
Go to bed early and rise with the sun.
This is real, as real as it gets,
don't go spending money that you don't got yet.
Truth is you don't got nothing yet.
Gets harder every day to keep what you get.
Living is easy, that's just a fable.
Justice is money passed under the table.
This is real, as real as it gets,
don't go spending money that you don't have yet.
Give us the freedom that others fought so hard to get.
Give us the peace that we don't have yet.
Life in the land of milk and honey.
Food on the table and a pocket full of money.
This is real, as real as it gets,
don't go spending money that you don't got yet.
Look in the basement and up on the roof.
Sell your soul and your one gold tooth.
Go to bed early and rise with the sun.
Don't do the things that your daddy done.
This is real, as real as it gets,
don't go spending money that you don't got yet.
BLOW THE HOUSE DOWN
Big bad wolf, you got some splainin to do. Is it true what they say of you?
Big bad wolf blow the house down. Chase the women all over town.
You got a reputation for the things you do. Big bad wolf, got some splainin to do.
And why is your hair in such a mess. Come clean wolf, it's time to confess.
Big bad wolf you come from the bad side of town. Big bad wolf blow the house down.
Big bad wolf, I got my eye on you. You better be careful what you do.
Everybody knows that you're the one. Them scary old eyes and that wagging tongue.
Yea, big bad wolf, got some splainin to do.
Big bad wolf chasing them women all over town. Big bad wolf, blow the house down.
You stay out late and you howl at the moon. Big bad wolf you got some splainin to do.
Big bad wolf, is it true what they say of you? Big bad wolf got some splainin to do.
Big bad wolf, I got my eye on you. You better be careful what you do.
You come from the bad side of town. Big bad wolf blow the house down.
You stay out late and you howl at the moon. Big bad wolf you got some splainin to do.
Everybody knows that you're the one. Them scary old eyes and that wagging tongue.
You stay out late and you howl at the moon. Big bad wolf you got some splainin to do.
FESTIVAL OF MARIAH
It's a yearly event, and has been for some time.
They gather together and say whats on their mind.
The old barn in the woods, and the smell of Autumn in the air.
They curse and they spit and cast spells while they're there.
(Chorus)
Tombstones of marble, tombstones of stone.
Tombstones, tombstones of all who have gone.
Well it's a place, an event, a time of the year
When the full moons shining on a night so clear.
The festival of Mariah, and the dead who have gone.
The rugged, the weak, the timid, and the strong.
(Chorus)
There's magic in the air on a night like this.
They take out their book, their charcoal, and list.
It's a yearly event and has been for some time.
They gather together and say what's on their mind.
(Chorus)
They call it Mariah but I don't know why.
They bury their dead there whenever they die.
The old barn in the woods, and the smell of Autumn in the air.
They curse and they spit and cast spells while they're there.
(Chorus)
Well it's a place, an event, a time of the year
When the full moons shining on a night so clear.
The festival of Mariah, and the dead who have gone.
The rugged, the weak, the timid, and the strong.
(Chorus)
TOP OF THE LIST
Hey bartender can I borrow a shot of whiskey from you?
I'm not at my best, I'm busted and feeling a little blue.
This is the last one, I'm quitting after this.
There's a lot of things I'm changing and that's at the top of my list.
I'll come by tomorrow, like I did yesterday.
And I'll pay you what I owe you for the drink I have today.
Who's that playing on the jukebox? I recognize the song.
I think it's Mr. Waits playing something from Real Gone.
Yea, there's gonna be some changes, but maybe not today.
I'll start bright and early tomorrow when there's nothing in my way.
Now how's about another and this will be my last.
I'll tell you all about my troubles and all about my past.
Now tell me Hank, who's that lady just walked through the door?
She doesn't look familiar, don't believe I've seen her here before.
Go ahead and set her up a drink now too.
Yea, this will be the last one, I'm quitting after this.
There's a lot of things I'm changing and that's at the top of my list.
I'll come by tomorrow, like I did yesterday.
And I'll pay you what I owe you for the drink I have today.
And while you're at it, go ahead and pour me another,
You know I'm quitting tomorrow, so here's to our brothers.
Yea, there's gonna be some changes, but maybe not today.
I'll start bright and early tomorrow when there's nothing in my way.
Now how's about another and this will be my last.
I'll tell you all about my troubles and all about my past.
SECOND TRAIN OUT
He hopped the second train out of town,
he would have taken the first, but it broke down.
And he left in quite a hurry and left so much behind.
His clothes, his money, and the girl they would find.
He never intended it to be this way.
And he never planned on what happened that day.
(Chorus)
Love so deep, so powerful, and defined,
but there's limits in love and he crossed the line.
That train won't slow down,
until it's way out of site of this old town.
And just how far does he think he'll get?
They haven't even started missing her yet.
(Chorus)
And the second train is heading out west.
And for what he's done, he'll get no rest.
They'll find her soon down at the old coal mine.
Well there's limits in love and he crossed the line.
And it could be on a night like this.
The train pulls out with a moan and a hiss.
And just how far does he think he'll get?
They haven't even started missing her yet.
(Chorus)
JACKS HOME
They thought he would never get out.
Come to think of it, I had my doubts.
For what he did, they say he should hang.
Feed his body to the jackels and burn the remains.
Jacks home now and crazier than before.
Don't you dare go knocking on his door.
Years have passed since that Autumn day,
and I remember well when they took him away.
And the house has been empty, except for the rats,
the snakes and the spiders, and those vampire bats.
But Jacks home now,so it's best to stay away.
If you thought he was crazy before, you should see him today.
Jacks home now and crazier than before.
So don't you dare go knocking on his door.
I remember the basement and the blood on the stairs.
Then came the dreams and the scary nightmares.
It's a sight you never want to see.
But it opened our eyes and made us believe.
Jacks home now and crazier than before.
So don't you dare go knocking on his door.
When you walk by the house, you can smell it in the air.
The death and the crimes that happened there.
The towns folk wanted to burn it to the ground.
Yea, they let him out and Jacks home now.
Jacks home now and crazier than before.
So don't you dare go knocking on his door.
TOMORROW IN PARADISE
What's the reason for the tears in the rain?
Now come down from that steeple and let's hide the pain.
The taxi's waiting, parking outside.
And tomorrow we'll be sitting in paradise.
There's nothing on the TV, so let's make the news.
This cold blue steel will get us the respect we're due.
My hands a little shaky, but that's nothing new.
And tomorrow we'll be sitting in paradise.
Lucky was never as lucky as you.
He strung meat for a living and paid his dues.
He was one of a kind, one of the few.
And tomorrow we'll be sitting in paradise.
Forget the day and deal with the pain.
Tomorrows loss will be our gain.
We'll have our sunshine without any rain
And tomorrow we'll be sitting in paradise.
Now wipe the gloom off of your face now
Tomorrow we'll be leaving this old rat race.
And Lucky, he may be lucky, but I'm holding the ace.
And tomorrow we'll be sitting in paradise.
So what's the reason for the tears in the rain.
Come down from that steeple and let's hide the pain.
The taxis waiting, he's parked outside.
And tomorrow we'll be sitting in paradise.
Forget the day and deal with the pain.
Tomorrows loss will be our gain.
We'll have our sunshine without any rain
And tomorrow we'll be sitting in paradise.
WORKING IN THE CEMETERY
Working in the cemetery no shoes no shirt,
dig a hole in the ground and move all the dirt.
Sun bearing down feels like hot lead.
Tombstones and shadows and a home for the dead.
(Chorus)
Dig another hole in the dirt and the clay. Dig another hole and call it a day.
Dig another hole in the dirt and the clay. Dig another hole and call it a day.
Well business is good burying three today.
Two tomorrow and four yesterday.
Some cool cool water would feel good about now.
Pour it on my head and let it run down to the ground.
(Chorus)
Working in the cemetery no shoes no shirt,
dig a hole in the ground and move all the dirt.
Sun bearing down feels like hot lead.
Tombstones and shadows and a home for the dead.
(Chorus)
Well these blisters on my hands just won't go away.
Dig another hole in the dirt and the clay.
The guys down at the bar are talking about their day,
and the blisters on my hands just won't go away.
(Chorus)
They're bragging and boasting about all their silver and gold,
and today I just buried another poor soul.
And they're bragging and boasting about their day,
and these blisters on my hands just won't go away.
(Chorus)
These blisters on my hands just won't go away.
Dig another hole in the dirt and the clay.
JONES FARM
Let's take a trip down to Jones Farm,
admire the scenery just don't be alarmed,
if you see a lone grave over there in the field.
The grave of Laura Foster who Tom Dooley killed.
Well at least Tom was the one that got blamed.
He was tried, found guilty, and eventually hanged.
Some believe he never did it at all.
And it sure is beautiful around here, especially in the fall.
Now Tom was seeing Laura, and Ann Melton too.
Well at least thats what they say, I don't know if it's true.
And some say it was Ann, she was the one.
But it was Tom they found guilty and eventually hung.
And it's peaceful around here where the Yadkin River flows,
what really happened then, well nobody really knows.
You see, it was in the 1800's, after the civil war.
And those who were around then, aren't around anymore.
So we can only go by what;s been written down,
and poor Laura Foster lies there in the ground.
And just up the road is old Tom's grave.
He was only 22 years old when they hung him that day.
Now it's all in the past, just a passage in time.
Here on Jones Farm down by the county line.
GHOSTS OF ANCIENT POMPEI
It's nighttime in Paris, and nighttime in Rome.
It's nighttime in Frankfurt, and it's nighttime at home.
Tomorrow the living will start a new day,
but not the ghosts of ancient Pompeii.
(Chorus)
the potter, the merchant, the peasants, the thieves.
And the ghosts of old Pompeii just will not leave.
The nighttime leaves easy, and welcomes the day.
But not in the streets of old Pompeii.
Mamma's kiss their babies, and fathers hurry home,
it's nighttime in Paris, and it's nighttime in Rome
They all settle in at the end of the day.
But not the ghosts of old Pompeii.
(Chorus)
And the ruins of Pompeii lay buried for years
along with the screams and the mothers tears.
You can't take it with you, I hear it's been said,
And they never even bothered to bury the dead.
(Chorus)
HARD TIMES IN DUGENVILLE
Well the train don't run down them tracks no more.
They tore down the theater and the old drug store.
And the factories they all closed their doors.
No things just aren't the same around here any more.
These are difficult times, difficult times in deed.
Hard times in Dugenville, and some bad times for me.
These are difficult times, difficult times in deed.
Hard times in Dugenville, and some bad times for me.
Lisa lost her job, and Frank couldn't pay the bills.
She wanted a simple ceremony, so she left it in her will.
She's not the only one, they're standing in line,
while mothers bury their daughters, yea these are difficult times.
These are difficult times, difficult times in deed.
Hard times in Dugenville, and some bad times for me.
These are difficult times, difficult times in deed.
Hard times in Dugenville, and some bad times for me.
The house were I grew up is a funeral parlor now,
in the back of the shed is where they slaughter the cows.
Sometimes it's hard to tell which blood is which.
But you get the special treatment if you're one of the rich.
These are difficult times, difficult times in deed.
Hard times in Dugenville, and some bad times for me.
These are difficult times, difficult times in deed.
Hard times in Dugenville, and some bad times for me.
FRIDAY NIGHTS RAIN
Friday nights rain brought the floods to town.
Forecast was for sun but it sure came down.
And we're all counting our blessings, cause it could be worse.
They carried mama Mabel off in a Hurst.
(Chorus)
Rain, rain, coming down on me.
Well it rained out the barn dance, and flooded the zoo.
We're all sitting here on our rooftops, just a singing the blues.
Yea, Friday nights rain brought the floods to town.
Early Saturday morning, it's still coming down.
(Chorus)
We never saw it coming, so it took us by surprise.
Forecast was for sun well I guess they lied.
But we're all counting our blessings, cause it could be worse.
They carried mama Mabel off in a Hurst.
(Chorus)
I'M CRAZY TOO
Oh how we danced as I lay me down to sleep.
The visions of the night just would not leave.
And they were all crazy, and I'm crazy too.
Nothing could compare to what we had been through.
And I should have known better than to bet on you.
Henry knew he was getting old,
So he told me where he hid his silver and gold.
His days were numbered, he knew it wouldn't be long.
Just a matter of time and soon he'd be gone.
And I should have known better than to bet on you.
I had every right to take what was mine.
I planned and waited, now it was time.
Oh how we danced like there was no tomorrow.
No longer did we have to beg steal and borrow.
And they were all crazy, and I'm crazy too.
Nothing could compare to what we had been through.
And I should have known better than to bet on you.
Oh how we danced as I lay me down to sleep.
The visions of the night just would not leave.
Oh how we danced to the music we played.
Funny how those times just slipped away.
And I should have known better than to bet on you.
THE VISION OF OBADIAH
Taken straight out of the book of Obadiah.
That's in the Bible for all you heathens.
