GWERZ has been founded at the beginning of the Eighties by lovers of the characteristic moaning chant from Brittany of the same name. This then-forgotten style has been updated by the French band, and this caused it huge success on both French and European Celtic scenes. Erik MARCHAND (Vocals), Patrick MOLARD (Bagpipes), Soig SIBERIL (Guitar), Jacky MOLARD (Violin & bass) and Youen LE BIHAN (Bombarde and biniou) recorded a legendary first eponymous album in 1985, now reissued by the Ethnea label. The music is based on traditional tunes, on which the musicians improvise in the Gwerz style. It orchestrates the wedding of typical chants (Unique and loaded with emotions) with superb combinations between guitar, violin and wind instruments.
