Divide by Pi
Divide by Pi is a Chicago-based duo consisting of Aaron Krister Johnson on synthesizers and processed vocals, and Andy Hasenpflug on percussion and processed vocals.
Their music is entirely improvised on the spot; no two performances or improvisations ever give the same results. This makes their music very exciting to hear and watch. Their influences and style range from early pioneers (in particular, Morton Subotnick's early work, and some electronic pieces by Xenakis), to current electronica, to ancient sounding hypnotic ambient textures and drones, Medieval organum, and a touch of noise music flavor. In addition, there is a strong sense of sci-fi kitsch at times. Important to their technique is the use of just intonation and other microtonal scales. Tracks
