Composed of six members all in their twenties, KVAZAR does exist since 1998. After having listened to its first eponymous album, published three years later on the Musea label, it's hard to believe this is a first work ! Fully mature and personal, the music displayed by this current Norwegian band is without any doubt in the same vein as other Scandinavian School bands like ANEKDOTEN, ANGLAGARD and LANDBERK: influences inherited from KING CRIMSON, an intimate sadness (Mellotron) and a dark romanticism... At times, one could imagine that, if CAMEL was to be born close to the Arctic Polar Circle, it would sound like this. But KVAZAR's music is different and more eclectic. With two guitarists and three potential keyboards players, the sound appears to be very complex and polyphonic. Cello parts, tortured guitar riffs, lots of lively keyboards parts (Sometimes reminding GENESIS), worked out vocals with an excellent singer (English lyrics): these mid-long pieces (From 6 to 9 minutes) are a real discovery, innovative and inspired. Brilliant ! The second opus "A Giant's Lullaby" (2005) is even more polished. The ten tracks display a very personal Progressive rock, mixing symphonic parts and jazzy flavour. KVAZAR offers a beautiful fusion, refreshing and inspired. To be discovered urgently !
