IN SPE is the name of an exceptional Seventies Progressive rock band from Estonia, somewhat influenced by occidental music, that could then be heard on Finnish radio. Some musicians will later become famous, as soon as Soviet Union’s dislocation allowed local cultural life to escape its artistic ghetto, such as keyboardist Erkki-Sven TÜÜR (Who left in 1983 to become a renowned classical music composer) or guitar player Riho SIBUL (VSP PROJECT). As the band’s second leader and keyboardist, Alo MATIISEN wrote the independence national anthem in 1990 ! After an excellent eponymous album, realised in 1979 and influenced by GENESIS, "Typewriter Concerto In D Major" (1985) offers an ambitious Progressive rock. Far away from western models, it mixes classical music writing, with rock and symphonic arrangements. Also influenced by European jazz, this album presents a beautiful nostalgic music, with keyboards and guitar soli, with atmospheres that alternate peaceful moments and gothic ones. Not to be missed !
