HOT FUR is the name of a current Israeli Progressive rock band, formed in 1998 by the composer and guitarist Lior FRENKEL. First recorded by that time, the first eponymous album is eventually released some seven years later on the Musea label. On this occasion, the recording was remixed and remastered, and a bonus track was added to it. No need to reduce HOT FUR to simple influences: its leader studied jazz and composing in Israel then in the Netherlands for instance, and he also produces electronic music. Among his claimed influences are Frank ZAPPA, Olivier MESSIAEN, Miles DAVIS... Beside the basic rock band instrumentation, a saxophone, a trumpet and several singers are present. The Frank ZAPPA’s lovers will undoubtedly appreciate the vivacity of the rhythms as well as the fantasy and humour of the themes. The Robert WYATT or KING CRIMSON connoisseurs won’t find themselves on unknown land either. But these twelve tracks, all of them different from one another, create a really new alchemy between rock, jazz, Progressive rock and experimental music. HOT FUR proves that still today, free music with strong contrasts, melodies and harmonies can be made. Impressing !
