Founded in 1984 by the brothers Trent and Wayne GARDNER, this unique band took the name of MAGELLAN when releasing its first album "Hour Of Restoration", nearly seven years later. This opus already included all the (Sometimes surprising) ingredients that made these American guys an outstanding Progressive rock phenomenon. With a nervous Jon ANDERSON-like singing, as well as bombastic keyboards parts courtesy of the leader Trent GARDNER, there are rough guitar parts played by his brother, the bass parts being mostly played by synths, and the drumming by a rhythm machine... Which was programmed skilfully, don't be afraid ! On its release in 1993, "Impending Ascension" was a real thrill both among public and critics. A very special experience, quite memorable for many Progressive rock fans ! "Test Of Wills" (1997) provided drum parts played by a human drummer, at last. If you try and listen to this, get prepared for a one-hour-lasting continuous musical rage, breaking very shortly at times, not long enough to leave you take your breath again ! From this point of view, the works of MAGELLAN could be compared to those of GERARD. Through the years, the music of the brothers Trent & Wayne GARDNER displayed less originality but gained more efficiency, even getting closer to a certain Progressive heavy-metal school. As a testimony to a new evolution phase, the seventh opus "Innocent God" (2008) lets apart the classic influences of its predecessor "Symphony For A Misanthrope" (2005), in favour of compositions more concise and less demonstrative. Could it be the album of the maturity ? Let's also note that after having hired many guest musicians through time, MAGELLAN is now a real group, as Robert BERRY (GTR, THREE, Jack FOSTER III...) now joins the duet as a multi-instrumentalist.
